• Budgeting and cost control – gain an understanding of budgeting and cost control as the ability to estimate costs, develop and agree budgets and monitor actual costs against forecast costs
• Risk and issue management – gain an understanding of risk and issue management as the ability to identify and monitor risks (threats and opportunities) plan responses to those risks and respond to issues
• Change control – gain an understanding of change control and the ability to manage variations and change requests in a controlled way

Project Management Qualification

By completing the course you will gain the essential underpinning knowledge of project management, from concept to transition. You will accumulate the necessary insight to demonstrate your knowledge in practice. You will learn the skills to be able to successfully contribute to deliver project outcomes.

You will gain an in-depth understanding of the concepts of project management and the key topics to support your journey. It will allow you to gain a full understanding of the critical roles and responsibilities within a project team and a range of underpinning approaches. You will gain a clear understanding on procurement strategies to secure the resources required on projects. This course will cover quality management, ensuring that effective assurance is in place to ensure project outputs meet agreed standards.

You will gain an understanding of essential project frameworks and the governance structures that ensure projects are managed effectively. You will gain an understanding of how governance is applied to project lifecycles and how authority and accountability is applied whilst ensuring project management is aligned with organisational practices. You will gain an understanding of sustainability and how this links to social, economic and administrative considerations to deliver projects which have lasting impact.

You will gain valuable practical skills which you will be able to apply in practice. You will learn how to create an effective business case and use this to justify key decisions based on cost, benefits and risks. A wide range of tools and techniques are covered to support effective project delivery including risk and issue management to gain the confidence to identify challenges and opportunities and be able to plan effective responses. This supports individuals to be able to navigate challenges when working in complex project environments.

There is a key focus on effective leadership and teamwork. You will gain confidence in building successful relationships, developing teamwork and a clear understanding of how effective leadership is key when working within projects. You will learn how to motivate and foster collaboration within project environments to deliver successful project outcomes. You will leave with the confidence to manage projects effectively to ensure that organisational strategic goals and objectives are achieved. You will develop strategies for conflict resolution which gives you confidence to address and resolve disputes to ensure the project remains successfully on track.

APM® Project Management Qualification (PMQ)

Who is the APM® Project Management Qualification (PMQ) for?

This qualification is aimed at project managers who have 2-3 years’ experience of leading and managing projects. This is for experienced professionals who are looking to advance their career.

It is also relevant to other key staff involved in the design, development, and delivery of projects, including:

Project Board members (e.g. Senior Responsible Owners), Team Managers (e.g. Product Delivery Managers), Project Assurance (e.g. Business Change Analysts), Project Support (e.g. Project and Programme Office personnel) and operational line managers/staff.

Prerequisites

There are no formal prerequisites for undertaking this course. All potential candidates will be required to complete a self-assessment prior to undertaking the course. This will ensure that this determines the course is right for you. This is the APM competence framework and outlines the competencies for effective project management.

You will most likely:

• Be working in a project environment
• Have two to three years of experience as a project professional or be actively undertaking a project management apprenticeship or degree
• Be looking to progress your career and improve your employability
• Be interested in learning about all areas of project management and not a particular methodology

If you don’t already have any of the experiences referred above, you might want to take the APM® Project Fundamentals Qualifications before studying for the APM® Project Management Qualification.

Exam Information

2.5 hours with an optional 30-minute break, 40 questions worth a total of 90 marks. The exam is split into two parts. The break time can be taken between parts. The break time is in addition to the 2.5-hour exam time.

APM® Project Management Qualification (PMQ) allows you to gain a solid understanding of the essential tools and techniques for effective project management. This is for professionals with 2-3 years’ experience of project management. This is perfect for those who are looking to advance in their career.

What is APM® Project Management Qualification (PMQ)

The purpose of the Project Management Qualification is to confirm that a candidate has sufficient knowledge and understanding of the APM® method to be able to work effectively with, or as a member of, a project management team working within an environment supporting APM®.  The APM® Project Management Qualification is designed for people who directly have some knowledge, understanding or experience of project management and are looking to move deeper into a project management career.

How long does it take to complete APM® Project Management Qualification (PMQ)?

Please be advised that it is recommended that a minimum of 40 hours duration for APM® Project Management Qualification pre-course e-learning takes place prior to the Virtual Online Classroom course. You then need to complete 40 hours of additional online learning resources before sitting your exam.

Please be advised that this is a 5 Day Virtual Live Online Classroom Course. You have 12 months from the date of issue to take your APM® Project Management Qualification (PMQ) Exam.

The Self-Study course covers the full content of the course in a digital format. There are also directed development resources to support you to be able to apply this in practice within the role. This consists of 40 hours of self-paced learning and 40 hours of additional online learning resources.

What is the format of the APM® Project Management Qualification (PMQ) exam?

The exam is 2.5 hours long with an optional 30-minute break. It will test your project management knowledge through four new question types:

• Multiple response (20 questions, each worth 1 mark)
• Select from the list (5 questions, each worth 2 marks)
• Short responses (5 questions, each worth 2 marks)
• Long responses (10 questions, each worth 5 marks)

APM® recommends a minimum of 75 hours of learning to ensure that you are fully prepared for the exam.

Is the APM® Project Management Qualification (PMQ) course right for me?

The APM® Project Management Qualification is for project professionals with at least 2-3 years working within the project management field.

You will most likely:

• Be working in a project environment

Do I need access to the APM® Body of Knowledge to complete the learning?

Some of the references in the directed development learning direct you to content in the APM® Body of Knowledge. This is not included as standard but you do have the option to purchase the body of knowledge as an optional extra. If you are an APM member a digital version of the book is included in your membership.
